Good Evening Band Families,
We’re past the half-way point for our week-long band camp and everyone is doing great! We’ve been doing games focusing on teamwork, rhythm, pulse, situational awareness, composition, and fitness! We’ve also been working on music for both Pep Band and Marching Band applications. And we’ve been learning the basics of how to march, band style! I’ve had a lot of fun this week and I think the students have as well. If you haven’t been able to be there so far, you can still join us for the last two days! Just come to the band room at 8AM. We’re done by noon.
I had mentioned before that we usually have a party on the last day, in the afternoon. This is not an official school event. (In fact, it’s a tradition that has long been initiated and led by students). I will be there the entire time, however. The Long family has invited us to their property on McCourtney road for this. There is a lot of land, a beautiful creek, hiking, picnic tables, etc. A poll of the students looks as though most, if not all, would like to attend. Ms. Long and Ms. Alford have volunteered to provide lunches (sandwiches, sides, drinks). Please reply or confirm at camp tomorrow so we’ll know how many lunches to prepare. Also let me know if you’ll need a carpool ride. It shouldn’t be a problem. We’ll head over right after camp on Friday and the party will go until 3PM. There is likely no cell signal at the property, so rides home should be planned in advance.
Good Afternoon Music Families,
With this email, I am starting back up my periodic music newsletter. It will be my goal to have it go out weekly on Sundays, particularly for more eventful weeks. If you are reading this on our website (at http://www.BearRiverMusic.org/communication/ ) and would like to have it emailed directly, click on the appropriate Email Group sign up link on the right side of the screen and sign up. If you are reading this as an email, know that all emails will be posted on the above web address as well.
Toyota Amphitheatre Fundraiser!!
Our biggest fundraiser is selling concessions at the Toyota Amphitheater in Wheatland throughout their concert season. This fundraiser is limited to adults since alcohol is sold, but not limited to only parents. So if you have friends or family that would like to work the booth with you, they can sign up as well! There is no obligation to participate, but it would help a great deal if you did. The music department is smaller than before the lockdown and the more that help will relieve pressure on everyone. You can work one, some, or all of the shows!
Prior to working, you must take the online training course. This is mandatory. It would be great if everyone took some time in the next week and got this done. Then you will be available (but not obligated) to work, should the need or desire arise.
Instructions for successfully completing the online training.
You can see the dates for the 8 shows at our Parent Sign Up page: http://www.bearrivermusic.org/sign-up-here/. They are also on our Bear River Music Google calendar, seen here: http://www.bearrivermusic.org/calendar/. You can also subscribe to that calendar by clicking the “+Google Calendar” icon at the bottom right.
Booster Board Opening!
Were you just about to jump up and volunteer to serve this year on the Music Booster Board but got cold feet? Well, now you’ve got another opportunity! The position of board president is open and you may be just the person to fill it! The job may sound scarier than it is. The board meets monthly (usually via Zoom). The president presides over the meetings and oversees the various committees or projects but is not necessarily running or even participating in them. It is a fun way to stay connected to your son or daughter’s activities and a vital position for the maintenance of our 501c3 status, so please reply if you are interested.
Band Camp begins tomorrow morning at 8AM! Join us and tell your friends! For more info, see the previous email from Friday.

Good Afternoon Band & Families,
I always start off my first email of the year saying how excited I am to be coming back to school to start making music with you again, but I can not express just how true that is this year! Welcome back!
Each year (normally), we hold a week-long, on-campus camp two weeks before school starts. This is to get everyone back in the swing of things, build camaraderie, and prepare for events early in the year.
Band is a discipline that performs in a wide variety of venues and outlets. We perform pop music in the stands for football and basketball games, we perform for rallies at school, we perform in concerts on our own stage and when traveling, we perform on the street in local parades and marching competitions. You have the option to also participate with the Jazz Band and/or Starlite Band to open up additional opportunities. And there is the possibility of traveling to be recognized as a member of an honor band. These events are structured throughout the year. And they begin with camp, this coming Monday!
Dates: Monday, August 2 – Friday, August 6
Time: 8AM – Noon
Location: Bear River Band Room
What to Bring:
Activities: Pep music, symphonic music, jazz music, team building games, marching basics, individual and team contests.
Please make sure you are rested and eat a good breakfast!
Also: We usually end the week with an informal, unofficial hangout/party somewhere nearby. Either at someone’s house or one of the LoP parks, etc. So keep your Friday afternoon schedule free.
If you’re going to need to borrow a school instrument, please reply to this and let me know.
Also, if you didn’t get a Remind text letting you know about this email, sign up by texting @bruinsband to 81010 and following the directions that will follow.
Spread the word to your friends! Even if they didn’t sign up – that can still be fixed!!!
See you soon,
